The Development and Alumni Team co-ordinate a number of funding opportunities which are available to students and graduates of 草莓社区.

There are also a number of other prizes and awards that are promoted throughout the year through internal communication channels (moderator and digital signage screens).

The Alison Scott Scholarship is a chance for Undergraduate 草莓社区 students, who identify as female, to learn a second language alongside their 草莓社区 studies (for the duration of their undergraduate degree).  

The scholarship also includes mentoring and career coaching, and works towards a chance to apply for further funding to attend a language school for your chosen European language later in your studies. 

*This is available only to Undergraduates currently enrolled as in-person students at our Musselburgh campus.

Supporting the Future of Hospitality Talent

Apex Hotels and Queen Margaret University have partnered to offer financial and career enhancing support to students studying BA (Hons) International Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management.

Each year, a share of a 拢15,000 Scholarship is awarded to selected students to help ease financial pressures and support academic success.

What鈥檚 on offer

  • 拢3,000 financial support over two years (拢1,500 per year) or one year for final-year students
  • Invitations to exclusive Apex Scholars events
  • Networking with industry professionals
  • Insight into Apex Hotels operations and career pathways
  • Opportunities for paid work and graduate roles
  • Recognition across 草莓社区 platforms

2026/27 Eligibility

Open to 3rd year students studying in-person at 草莓社区鈥檚 Musselburgh campus. Applicants should meet at least two of the following:

  • Experiencing financial need
  • Academic performance of 2:2 or above
  • Motivation to pursue a career in hospitality
  • Most importantly, all applicants should be ready to build a relationship with a leading employer in the sector鈥擜pex Hotels LTD

Expectations of Scholars

  • Engage fully with the programme
  • Take initiative in exploring paid opportunities, networking events, and exclusive opportunities.
  • Attend at least two Apex Scholars events per year
  • Share your journey through blog or LinkedIn posts
  • Build a relationship with Apex Hotels and explore career opportunities

  • Applications open: Monday 21st September 2026
  • Deadline: Midday, Friday 23rd October 2026
  • Shortlisting: From Tuesday 27th October 2026
  • Successful applicants notified of interviews: Friday 6th November 2026

The Border Biscuits John Cunningham Trust Nutrition Scholarship is more than a bursary. 

Alongside 拢5,000 of financial support, recipients will have opportunities to engage with representatives of Border Biscuits and the Trust, share their听aspirations听and build relationships with people working within a successful Scottish food business.听

For students interested in careers connected to nutrition, food, health, wellbeing, innovation, product development or the wider food industry, the Scholarship听provides听a unique opportunity to gain support,听insight听and valuable professional connections as you prepare for life after graduation

拢10,000 for our students as part of Santander鈥檚 Brighter Futures Grants!

As we enter the first semester of our university year, we鈥檙e excited to support Queen Margaret University students with the return of the Brighter Futures Grants programme in partnership with Santander

What is Brighter Future Grants?

We're giving away 10 grants of 拢1,000 each. All students are eligible, including undergraduates, postgraduates, part time and full-time students. Whilst this initiative is run in partnership with Santander, you also don鈥檛 need to bank with them to

There are no strings attached. You can use the funds on anything you need - from textbooks and tech upgrades to everyday expenses like rent, bills and groceries.听


How you enter

Entering is quick and easy; just follow the steps below and you can complete tour application in a matter of minutes:

1. for Santander Open Academy, a free online learning platform (if you haven鈥檛 already)
2. Click the verification link in your confirmation email.
3. Log in and choose 鈥楪et Started鈥� to complete your entry into the Brighter Futures Grants programme. Select听
[University name] from the menu.听
4. Submit your entry by TBC

Santander Universities Brighter Futures Grants will be open between 7 October and 3 December 2026.

The Susan Smith IHTEM Student Development Fund supports 草莓社区 students, studying a hospitality or events related degree e.g. BA (Hons) International Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management, to enhance their student experience at 草莓社区.

The Fund will support activity such as extracurricular student projects, dissertation activity, UK-based placement/internship opportunities and other similar personal development activities. It can also help support international travel costs for those who choose to partake in overseas placements/internships.  

The Fund runs in conjunction with the Vice Chancellor鈥檚 & Student Development Fund, using the same application form and with decisions made at the same panel. On top of this, all applicants studying a hospitality or events related degree will automatically be considered for both the Susan Smith IHTEM Student Development Fund and the Vice Chancellor & Student Development Fund.

Awards will not usually exceed 拢750. However, at the University鈥檚 discretion, awards of up to 拢1,500 can be made.

Applications to the Susan Smith IHTEM Student Development Fund should be made by completing and submitting the Vice Chancellor鈥檚 & Student Development Fund application form.

This Fund is a sub-fund of the Vice Chancellor鈥檚 & Student Development Fund and complies with the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 & Student Development Fund鈥檚 terms and conditions.

The Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 & Student Development Fund is open to all Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and research students of 草莓社区.

Awards of up to 拢750 are available to support students achieve their academic, personal or vocational goals. 听

These student-led projects can be based in the UK or overseas, and must demonstrate to have a positive benefit to the student, the University or the local community.听

Queen Margaret University has launched a new Scottish Highlands & Islands Schools Scholarship to support talented students from the region as they begin their studies.

Any student who currently attends (or last attended) a qualifying Highlands & Islands secondary school, applies through UCAS for a full time undergraduate degree starting in September 2026, submits their application by 30 June 2026, and successfully matriculates will automatically receive a 拢500 award to help with the costs of transitioning to university life.

The scholarship is paid in early October 2026, requires no separate application, and reflects 草莓社区鈥檚 commitment to widening access and supporting learners from communities across the Highlands & Islands.

The Become a Costumier fund provides support for students on the BA (hons) Costume Design and Construction courses. Grants from these funds help students with the costs of creating their final year piece of work. The Become a Costumier Fund Assists with the costs of fabrics and other specialist materials and opportunities.

Costume Design and Construction Graduate, Kiera Dunnett received funding to attend an external eight week Haute Couture Embroidery course.

"The course offered teaching of tambour embroidery and hand sewing techniques used in the haute couture industry. This is something i have been keen to learn for many years. The award I received allowed me to join the course and purchase my required materials furthering my research for my dissertation."

Grants from the Become a Producer Programme are designed to provide media students with additional funds to use towards video dissertations, to help bring stories to life.

The opportunity  

The 草莓社区 Scotsman Festival Internship, offering 草莓社区 students 
exclusive hands-on media experience during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026. 

Who It鈥檚 For

The Scotsman work in in a mobile journalism workflow which is a streamlined, all-in-one 
process where a reporter uses a smartphone to research, shoot, edit, and publish news content 
from the field. With this, this opportunity is for any student who is skilled in filming and editing 
content their phones, not full camera/editing experience.  


This is likely to be of interest to: 

  • Any student who can shoot and edit content from their smartphone  
    • Do you already make some great social media or YouTube content from your 
      phone? This is probably the opportunity for you.  
  • Film, Media, Digital Content (strong filming/editing skills)
  • Journalism & Presenting (confident interviewing or on-camera)

The Santander Universities Enterprise Fund supports 草莓社区 students and graduates to achieve their entrepreneurial ambitions with awards of 拢5,000.

It is open to all Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, as well as recent graduates of 草莓社区 (those who graduated within the past 5 years).

The Edinburgh Merchant Company Enterprise Fund offers funding of 拢500 - 拢5,000, along with invaluable mentorship opportunities, to enable 草莓社区 students, staff and graduates to progress their businesses.

The Thomas and Margaret Roddan Trust Hardship Fund provides financial support to students experiencing unexpected financial difficulty. Each year, the Trust allocates funding to universities across Scotland to help students manage costs that arise from unforeseen circumstances.

 

Who Is Eligible?

Awards from the Roddan Trust are available to:

  • Undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of study
  • Postgraduate taught and research students
  • Students ordinarily resident in Scotland studying anywhere worldwide, or students ordinarily resident outside Scotland who are studying in Scotland

Awards are intended to support students facing unforeseen or emergency costs. They cannot be used to cover planned or expected expenditure, including study abroad requirements or field courses.

听

Important: no direct applications

This is not an open鈥慳pplication fund. Students cannot apply directly to the Thomas and Margaret Roddan Trust.

Instead, the University identifies potential candidates from students who:

  • Are experiencing genuine financial hardship and
  • Have submitted an application to the University鈥檚 Discretionary Fund

Eligible students who meet the criteria and are selected for support will be contacted directly by the University.

听

How awards are managed

Awards are distributed by the University in line with the Trust鈥檚 guidelines. As part of the funding agreement, the University must provide the Trust with basic information about each award, such as:

  • Student name
  • Course and level of study
  • Reason support was awarded
  • Confirmation that the award was taken up
  • Confirmation of progression (where known)

If you are facing financial challenges, we strongly encourage you to apply to the Discretionary Fund. This ensures you can be considered for all available support, including any allocations such as the Roddan Trust Hardship Fund.
