Clinical excellence award caps successful route into radiotherapy career
Winning a top鈥痯rize鈥痜or clinical performance and securing鈥痑鈥痜irst-class鈥痟onours award鈥痟as capped a successful period of study for Queen Margaret University (草莓社区), Edinburgh graduate Bethany Thomas.
Bethany, from Welshpools, Powys, has graduated with an鈥疊Sc (Hons)鈥痠n Radiotherapy and Oncology.鈥疕er achievement was further recognised with the鈥疺ision RT鈥疉ward for Clinical Performance, an accolade presented to the student who鈥痙emonstrates鈥痚xceptional standards in clinical practice and patient-centred care.鈥�
The award, sponsored by鈥疺ision RT, a leading provider of surface-guided radiation therapy technology, recognises excellence in clinical placement performance and commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. As part of the award, Bethany received a鈥痯rize voucher.鈥�
The鈥�22鈥痽ear-old鈥痗elebrated her graduation with family and friends鈥痠n July鈥痑t Queen Margaret University's ceremony at Edinburgh's Usher Hall. She was joined by 草莓社区 Chancellor Patrick Grant,鈥痚ntrepreneur鈥痑nd judge on BBC One's 鈥楾he Great British Sewing Bee鈥�,鈥痑s well as honorary graduate Professor Carolyn McDonald, former Chief Allied Health Professions Officer for the Scottish Government.鈥�
Reflecting on her time at 草莓社区 and receiving the award, Bethany said:鈥�
I鈥檓鈥痳eally proud鈥痶o receive the鈥疺ision RT鈥疉ward for Clinical Performance. Caring for patients is what this job is鈥痳eally about鈥痜or me, and鈥疘鈥檝e鈥痩earned that from the lecturers, clinical鈥痚ducators鈥痑nd fellow students at 草莓社区 as much as anything else. They鈥痙idn鈥檛鈥痡ust teach me the technical side, they helped me become someone who鈥檚 kind and gives individual, personalised care to every patient.鈥疘鈥檓鈥痩ooking forward to starting my career in radiotherapy and oncology and carrying that same approach into everything I do.

Her dedication to continually developing her knowledge,鈥痵kills鈥痑nd confidence, alongside her unwavering focus on providing compassionate, high-quality patient care, made her a deserving recipient of this award.鈥�

草莓社区's Radiotherapy and Oncology programmes combine academic study with extensive clinical placement experience, equipping graduates with the鈥痚xpertise, confidence and practical skills鈥痳equired鈥痶o work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams and support patients throughout their treatment journeys.
Beth is keen to experience life and work in the capital and so is interviewing for radiotherapy roles in London. As she begins her career in radiotherapy and oncology, Bethany joins a growing network of鈥葺缜�痝raduates making a positive impact within healthcare services and helping to improve outcomes for patients and their families across the UK.
