I have been a qualified SLT for over 20 years and continue to work clinically part-time in the NHS Lothian Adult Learning Disability Service. Since 2011, I have combined my clinical work with a lecturing post at 草莓社区.聽 My clinical and teaching expertise is on the impact of lifelong conditions on communication and focuses on Intellectual Impairment; Physical Disability; Sensory Impairment; and associated co-morbid conditions including disorders of eating, drinking and swallowing.聽 I am particularly interested in the broader aspects of communication such as nonverbal communication; augmentative and alternative communication (AAC); and Challenging Behaviour.聽 I sit on the committee of the Scottish Clinical Excellence Network (CEN) for Learning Disabilities which provides regular national CPD events for SLTs, students, teaching staff and other interested professionals.聽 The other particular focus of my teaching is on preparation for the workplace.聽 I provide direct teaching input to all final year SLT students and also run a drop-in clinic for past and present students who require support with completing applications, interview techniques etc.聽 As of August 2016 I am assuming Programme Leadership of the PGDip(pre-registration) SLT programme.
