In this Student Story, MSc International Management and Leadership student Stella Nnenna Nwamoh shares insights into the course, her motivations for choosing 草莓社区, the support she received from the University and her participation in extracurricular activities such as the University Business Challenge. As she looks towards the future, Stella shares her aspirations for a career in international business and management, reflecting the transformative impact of her university experience.

Why did you choose to study at Queen Margaret University?
I chose to study at 草莓社区 for three reasons: The university was welcoming to all ethnic groups, I love the city of Edinburgh and the fees were competitive and within my budget.

What interested you about your chosen course?

"International Management and Leadership is a fascinating course because it provides insights into the challenges and opportunities of managing and leading in a globalised world which is essential for today鈥檚 interconnected economy."

It emphasises the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity helping us students to develop skills to effectively lead a diverse team. More importantly, the course encourages strategic thinking as it teaches students to analyse global trends and develop strategies to succeed in international markets. Overall, it helps students become adaptable, culturally sensitive, and global strategic leaders.

Why attracted you to study in Edinburgh?
I had the pleasure of working with a Scot before coming to study here. Edinburgh was something we would often talk about, so I was eager to visit.

What have you most enjoyed about your course? What has been the highlight?
The interesting and dynamic lectures, the way each module is connected, the case studies, and most importantly, the presentation exercise. I was always stage-frightened and shy, so the presentations were really difficult for me. However, because it was graded, I had to confront my fears head-on by improving myself. Now I'm better at it.

How have your lecturers supported your learning?
I have excellent lecturers who have consistently encouraged me and pushed me beyond my comfort zone. Even when I think my questions may seem foolish, they are always willing to listen and respond thoughtfully. I will never forget the saying 鈥淭here is no right or wrong answer鈥. The lectures have helped me to develop critical thinking and analytical skills.

What have been some of your challenges with the course and university life? How have you overcome them?
After leaving my home country, adjusting to life in Edinburgh and managing my academic responsibilities proved to be quite challenging. When I first arrived, it was challenging to find accommodation and deal with the exchange rate spike. However, with the help of God and support of family and friends, I was able to get through it. My slogan: 鈥淚 came, I saw, and I conquered鈥.

What 草莓社区 student services have you used聽 to support you through your university journey and how have they helped you?
The Effective Learning Service (ELS) helped me improve my academic writing. They are a wonderful team. Special thanks to Tim Freckleton!

Do you have any advice for students who might be interested in applying for this course?
Stay focused, be disciplined, and attend lectures. Take the case studies seriously and seize every opportunity to improve yourself. If you are an international student, use the ELS.

Have you been a part of any extracurricular programmes during your time as a student at 草莓社区? If so, how has it helped you develop skills and experience?
I participated in the University Business Challenge (UBC) competition. It was a thought-provoking experience and it provided the opportunity to put into practice everything we had learned in class.

"While the University Business Challenge was demanding, it was a very valuable experience, and I feel more confident now that I have the skills necessary to be productive in the corporate world."

What鈥檚 your 鈥榯op tip鈥 for making the most of being a student?
Attending classes is essential to your success at 草莓社区 because that's where you'll get the advice, resources, and strategies you need to succeed. Stay focused on your dreams and goals. Never limit yourself, you can achieve anything you set your heart to.
